Why Center School
Center School was founded in 1989 from the belief that students who learn differently flourish when they are educated in the right environment. Today, we serve students in grades 1 through 8 who reside in several school districts within Montgomery County, Philadelphia, Bucks County, and Delaware County.
Our success lies in our approach. A low student-teacher ratio enables us to offer personalized instruction to each student. Extraordinarily talented, highly qualified, and dedicated teachers discover how their students learn and then teach in a way that is best suited to each student’s individual needs.
Emphasis is placed on understanding each child’s potential and determining his or her learning needs so that a personalized education plan can be developed. No single approach or technique is used exclusively. Each teacher utilizes as many approaches as necessary to develop the potential of each child. Most reading teachers are certified reading specialists who continue to be trained in all of the new proven research and evidence-based programs.
Center School’s curriculum is multi-faceted, reflecting an understanding of our students’ academic and social-emotional needs and recognizing the role that language plays in academic success. Classrooms are places where creativity is fostered, and self-advocacy is developed. The curriculum can be adjusted to be taught at an appropriate pace for a student’s individual level of learning. Class sizes are small in order to deliver more individualized and personalized instruction.
