Center School, in partnership with LaSalle University, offers a high interest and fun summer program for children who will benefit from reading and writing support. While Exploring Life Under The Sea, students will build phonics and vocabulary skills, use literature to strengthen fluency and comprehension, practice writing and research skills and develop self-confidence.
Over 99% of living space on Earth is ocean all habitable by plants and animals. This summer students will hone their phonics and comprehension skills by reading and writing about different species of ocean life and their adaptations; use their artistic talents to create projects; and employ technology to research and organize information about ocean habitats and conservation.
Our four week program is for students in grades one through six. Students work in small groups with certified teachers who have training as reading specialists and who individualize instruction to meet students’ needs. Students are provided with sight word instruction, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, written language development and comprehension. Study skills are incorporated for older students. The use of hands-on activities, technology and multi-sensory instruction addresses learning style differences.
Students from all schools are welcome. Center School’s program is appropriate for students whose primary need is academic support and who are functioning within the average range of cognitive potential or above. The program is not designed for pre-readers.
Summer Program is in session each weekday June 28th to July 23rd from 8:30-12:00 noon. Transportation is not provided for the Summer Program but an afternoon camp option is available.
