Center School is committed to providing a supportive educational setting for students who have experienced difficulties in learning and reading. These children have often established cycles of failure and frustration in prior educational settings, and breaking these cycles is our top priority. Center School is dedicated to providing a challenging and rewarding educational experience which fosters each child's academic, social and emotional growth. Our program and approaches to teaching are based on the most recent research on how students with learning disabilities learn and thrive.
Our students benefit from instructional techniques which accommodate their unique learning styles and make the most of their individual strengths. Students are encouraged to take risks and become self-advocates. Meaningful successes and the ability to work through difficult situations using positive problem-solving skills are key factors in enhancing students' self-esteem.
At the core of Center School’s philosophy is the belief that the ability to effectively use language is crucial to academic success. The curriculum reflects this belief by giving students ample opportunities to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills across all content areas. Our faculty is highly qualified; many with expertise in reading and language development. Teachers provide explicit instruction in decoding, reading comprehension, vocabulary, study skills and organizational skills while also providing a strong foundation in math, science, social studies, art and physical education. |
