Summer Reading Program Mornings in Partnership with

July 5 through July 28, 2017
8:30 am to 12:00 pm

Dive in for a journey of discovery in the underwater world and see its amazing creatures.  Discover that over 99% of living space on Earth is ocean, all habitable by plants and animals.

For many students, the summer months are a critical time to continue skill development. Center School’s Summer Reading Program, in partnership with LaSalle University, offers the opportunity for students to develop and maintain skills, practice effective learning strategies and increase confidence in their abilities.

This four week program is designed to provide small group supportive instructions to students in grades K through 8 and focuses on the development and retention of language skills.

Students will learn through hands on activities built around the theme Undersea Adventures: Dive into Reading. Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are emphasized, and students receive systematic and strategic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Literature, art, technology, research and writing are integrated to enhance the theme. Study strategies and organizational skills are emphasized with older students.

The program maintains a low student-teacher ratio of approximately 4:1. Students are grouped according to age, strengths, and needs. The emphasis on small group instruction assures each student individualize attention in a warm, welcoming environment.

All summer program teachers are certified by the state of PA, and obtaining a Master’s Degree in Reading or a Reading Specialist certification. An experienced Reading Specialist serves as a supervisor in each classroom. Specialists and teachers work under the direction of LaSalle professors and Center School staff.
